Steps
of an epidemiological study:
Usually, an
epidemiologic study consists of the following steps:
Systematic literature search
Systematic review of the
literature regarding a specific clinical or public
health question
Critical appraisal of published
or unpublished studies
Planning of a new study
defining the exact study
questions
(usually in close
cooperation with clinicians or public health
experts)
developing the study design
determining the number of
required subjects to obtain meaningful results
(sample size calculation,
statistical power calculation)
developing and writing the
detailed study protocol
Organising the execution of the
study
Analysing the study with standard
and sophisticated statistical methods
(usually in close cooperation
with statisticians / mathematicians)
Writing of scientific papers to
publish the results in renowned international
journals
Writing of papers to publish the
results for the general public
(All medical writing is
usually carried out in English, if appropriate
in German.)
According to my
clients' needs, I offer all the steps of a study,
from the planning to publication.
If only some of the
steps are needed, you may obviously commission me to
carry out the single steps that you need. For
example, in many cases a systematic
review of the literature together with a critical
appraisal of published or unpublished studies may
already provide the answer to your question.
